Melaka (Malacca) - Places of Interests
Infocraft Centre, Melaka
Infokraf Melaka centre exhibits handicraft products such as batik, canes, bamboo, ceramics and other wares. Made by local craftsmen, the products can be purchased as souvenirs. An archive corner to enlighten visitors on the subject of local handicraft is also featured The centre is open from 9.00 am to 5.00 pm everyday except on public holiday.

Peoples Museum, Melaka
Exhibits include special interest issues relating to Malaysia's economic and social progress spanning from the period Malacca was known as 'Sleepy Hollow' right up to the phrase more apt to its dynamic outlook, 'The Vibrant Malacca'.

Malacca Town, Melaka
Malacca is rich with history. An exiled prince from Sumatra, Parameswara, found it in 1400. It thrived as a port-of call to many a ship and merchant from China, India, Arab and South America. The history of Malaysia begins from Malacca. The many remnants of the past will take a visitor on a nostalgic journey that goes back to 600 years of glorious and colourful past...

There are many centuries old buildings that blend the Portuguese (ruled in 1511), Dutch (ruled in 1641), and the British (ruled in 1824) cultures.

Portuguese Square, Melaka
This place can be called a "Mini Lisbon" for its strong affinity to Portugal. Located within the Portuguese Settlement dating to 1930s, the square is the culmination of Portuguese culture in its full splendor and colours.

Its inhabitants are Eurasians of Portuguese descent who display joy and exuberance in music and dances during festivities such as the Festa de San Pedro.

Proclamation of Independence Memorial, Melaka
Also known as Malacca Club, it was built in 1912, and currently exhibits relics, manuscripts, video tapes, films and slides of the country's struggle leading to independence.

The Stadthuys, Melaka
This was the official residence of Dutch Govenors and their officers since 1650 when it was built. The building is masterpiece of Dutch architecture. The structure has maintained its originality and now houses the Historic and Ethnography Museums that display traditional bridal costumes and relics from Malacca's glorious past. It is believed to be the oldest Dutch building in the East (circa 1641 & 1660).

Kampung Kling Mosque, Melaka
One of the oldest mosques in the country with Sumatran and Javanese architectural features. Instead of a conventional dome, a three-tier roof rising like a pyramid is in place. A minaret peculiar in shape from typical Moorish style is structured like a Pagoda, portraying a mixture of East-West architectural influence.

Maritime Museum, Melaka
The Maritime Museum is constructed after 'Flor De La Mar', the Portuguese ship that sank off the coast of Malacca on its way to Portugal. With its hull laden with invaluable treasures seized from Malacca, the ship was doomed from existence had it not for the efforts to revive its symbolic significance to Malacca's heritage.

Villa Sentosa, Melaka
The house is located in Kampung Morten, which is the only Malay village in the heart of Malacca city. It was built in the first quarter of 1900's and was designed in the style prevalent during that era. The house into a private museum by its owner has a history that goes back to the British Land Reform Act 1920. Visitor can view intriguing collection of costumes, Malay embroidery, furniture, musket and an array of interesting relics.

A'Famosa, Melaka
The Hallmark of Malacca and perhaps the most photographed subject next to the Stadhuys. Built by the Portuguese in 1511 as a fortress, it sustained severe structural damage during the Dutch invasion. The Dutch had set to destroy it but timely intervention by Sir Stamford Raffles in 1808 saved what remains of A' Famosa today

Christ Church
A Dutch architecture masterpiece using timber that dates to 1753. The best is seen in the handmade pews as well as in the ceiling beams which were constructed without joints.

St. Johns Fort
Constructed by the Dutch, atop a hill, during the third quarter of the 18th Century is was once a private Portuguese chapel dedicated to St John.

St. Paul's Church
Built by the Portuguese sea captain, the church was turned into a burial ground by the Dutch for their noble dead.

St Francis Xavier's Church
Of Gothic architecture, the Church was built in 1849 by a French Priest, Rev. Farve, as a memorial to St. Francis Xavier, a Catholic missionary.

Melaka Sultanate Palace
Inspired by the description of a royal palace mentioned in the Malay Annals, the wooden building now houses the Melaka Cultural Museum.

Hang Li Po's Well
Built in 1459 by the followers of Hang Li Po, the Chinese Princess who married the Sultan of Melaka, it has been turned into a wishing well for tourists.

Hang Tuah's Well
Local folklore has it that the spirit of Hang Tuah, a great Malay warrior during the era of the Melaka Sultanate resides at this well at Kampung Duyong, 14 km from the town.

Baba Nyonya Heritage Museum
Intermarriage between early Chinese settlers and local Malays resulted in the unique Baba Nyonya culture. Within the walls of this heritage building, visitors can learn more about the culture.

Melaka River Cruise
Take a relaxing river cruise on the Melaka river to see a different perspective of the historical city.

Air Keroh
15 km east of Melaka is Air Keroh, a tourist complex with hotels, golf courses, recreational forest, a zoo, a reptile park, butterfly farm, a crocodile farm, aquarium, Mini Malaysia and Mini Asean.
